I have been natural for 8 years. I was a relaxer girl from 4th grade onward. I didn't realize my actual hair texture, until high school. My parents did not like the natural look, and to keep them happy, I would on occasion get a perm every six months, and then the rest of the time use the very evil hot comb. My parents at the time were old school. In their eyes professional and nice equal straight. Curly and nappy was bad. They have softened their stance over the years, but I was still nervous to embrace my natural hair completely. Up until recently I was a pony tail and bun queen who would run to the ceramic hot iron in a heart beat every chance I could. Now I am a wash and go girl.

I am now ceramic hot iron free, and trying a new look, which ironically is my natural look. I got a book called curly girl, which is geared towards non blacks, but has a chapter on African American hair. The concept of Conditioner washes vs. shampoo is something I had no idea about. That and finger combing.

I am currently using Devacurl products along with the Kinky Curl Curling Custard, which I think is awesome!!!! I like to try new things so I might change it up as I come up with different ways to wear my hair
